Bush pledge over US intelligence
03.31.05 (5:12 pm)   [edit]
President George Bush has welcomed a study that says US intelligence agencies know "disturbingly little" about enemy weapons programs.

Describing the report as "extremely significant," he said US intelligence needed "fundamental change" to face the threats of the 21st Century.

The study makes recommendations for new director of US intelligence John Negroponte, who heads 15 spy agencies.

American torturing jobs increasingly outsourced
03.30.05 (12:48 pm)   [edit]
AFL-CIO vice president Linda Chavez-Thompson, representing the American Federation of Interrogation Torturers, released a statement Monday deriding the CIA's "extraordinary rendition" program, under which American torturing jobs are outsourced to foreign markets.

"Outsourcing the task of interrogating terror suspects to countries like Egypt, Syria, and Saudi Arabia is having a crippling effect on the Americans who make a living by stripping detainees nude, shackling them to the floor, and beating the living shit out of them," Chavez-Thompson said.

"And specialists within the field -- corrosive-material chemists, ocular surgeons, and testicular electricians -- are lucky to find any jobs at all. How are they supposed to feed their families?"

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales defended extraordinary rendition, saying the program will create jobs in the long run by fostering a global climate of torture tolerance.

CCRKBA calls Chicago cops' hidden microphones a civil rights threat
03.29.05 (3:05 pm)   [edit]

Disclosure that the Chicago, Ill. Police department has apparently been "experimenting" with tiny microphones in unmarked police cars that can pick up nearby conversations on the street is yet another civil rights slap in the face in a city where law-abiding citizens have already been effectively stripped of their gun rights.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today agreed with Ed Yohnka, spokesman for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois that there is a genuine concern about Fourth Amendment violations if such conversations would be recorded without warrants.

"In Chicago," said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron, "they have already effectively trashed the Second Amendment and apparently figure that since they've gotten away with it, they can also trash the Fourth. Even the Chicago Sun Times properly alluded to the "Big Brother" aspect of this equipment.

New details on FBI aid for Saudis after 9/11
03.28.05 (1:48 pm)   [edit]
The episode has been retold so many times in the last three and a half years that it has become the stuff of political legend: in the frenzied days after Sept. 11, 2001, when some flights were still grounded, dozens of well-connected Saudis, including relatives of Osama bin Laden, managed to leave the United States on specially chartered flights.

Now, newly released government records show previously undisclosed flights from Las Vegas and elsewhere and point to a more active role by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in aiding some of the Saudis in their departure.

The FBI gave personal airport escorts to two prominent Saudi families who fled the United States, and several other Saudis were allowed to leave the country without first being interviewed, the documents show.

Bush administration clears US troops in slaying of Calipari and wounding of Sgrena
03.26.05 (7:49 pm)   [edit]
The Bush administration took specific legal steps that cleared a US Special Forces assassination team in Iraq from any future criminal proceedings arising from their assassination of Italian SISMI intelligence number two man Nicola Calipari.

Calipari, the deputy head of SISMI and an experienced Iraqi expert, was accompanying freed hostage Giuliana Sgrena to Baghdad International Airport when their Toyota Corolla was fired on by well-trained US sharpshooter assassins.

Calipari was on the phone to the office of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in Rome, where his wife also works, when he was shot in the head. Sgrena and the driver, a Carabiniere officer, were injured in the attack.

Court orders New York fire department to release 9/11 tapes
03.26.05 (7:43 pm)   [edit]

The highest court in New York state ruled Thursday that the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) must release tapes of dispatches and emergency radio transmissions made from the World Trade Centre on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Court of Appeals ruled 4-3 in favor of granting a Freedom of Information request from the New York Times and victims' families to make the tapes and transcripts public, as well as internal interviews with firefighters about the rescue effort.

The court ordered the FDNY to give full access to the material, except portions that could cause pain or embarrassment to the people interviewed. But to be granted such an exception, the Fire Department must return to state Supreme Court and convince a judgeon a case-by-case basis.

White House considers MI5-type security division
03.25.05 (8:49 am)   [edit]
The Bush administration is considering a major restructuring of the Justice Department that would create a powerful new national security division in an effort to better consolidate and coordinate terrorism and espionage investigations, officials say.

The concept, still preliminary, reflects concerns among some administration officials that national security cases handled by Justice Department lawyers and investigators remain fragmented at times because of bureaucratic divisions, despite structural changes made since the Sept. 11 attacks.

MI6 shake-up after WMD fiasco
03.24.05 (8:44 pm)   [edit]
Britain's intelligence machinery is being overhauled after the mistakes it made about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, the Government announced yesterday.

MI6 has taken steps to ensure that information from foreign spies is checked more thoroughly. The Cabinet Office department dealing with intelligence is to be substantially expanded.

Ministers and officials will also be issued with new guidelines warning them about the "limitations of intelligence."

Foreign agents conducting secret "War On Terror" interrogations
03.23.05 (3:41 pm)   [edit]
Former "terrorism detainees" of the Kenyan authorities have alleged in interviews with Amnesty International that they were also secretly interrogated and threatened by foreign security agents whom they believe were from Mossad and the FBI.

The allegations are made in a new report published by Amnesty International today, which looks at human rights violations committed as part of Kenya's "crackdown" on terrorism since the bombing of a hotel near Mombassa in 2002 which killed 15 people.

The human rights organisation is calling on the Kenyan authorities to take immediate action to halt human rights violations during "anti-terrorism" operations.

The rantings of a killer
03.22.05 (4:32 pm)   [edit]

Here's the postings of Jeffrey Weise on a Nazi message board. He's the deranged nutcase who killed nine people at a Minnesota school yesterday.

Some of his comments are chilling:

"I guess I've always carried a natural admiration for Hitler and his ideals."

"Once I commit myself to something, I stay until the end..."

"By the way, I'm being blamed for a threat on the school I attend because someone said they were going to shoot up the school on 4/20, Hitlers birthday, and just because I claim being a National Socialist, guess whom they've pinned?"

MI5 warns of IRA attacks on mainland
03.22.05 (4:24 pm)   [edit]
British security officials are warning of a heightened risk of attacks by the Provisional Irish Republican Army and other republican paramilitary.

The threat level has been increased to "substantial," senior anti-terrorist officials told the Observer. An MI5 warning to police special branches late last week was passed to the Scotland Yard's counter-terrorism unit who alerted London's business community.

The warning -- seen by the Observer -- stated: "Reporting indicates that dissident Irish republican terrorists are currently planning to mount attacks on the UK mainland. Methods of attack could include 'incendiary and improved explosive devices,' 'postal devices,' and 'shooting attacks,'" it said.

Cyber attack may cripple UK, warn experts
03.22.05 (4:20 pm)   [edit]
Intelligence has warned about a terror plot to cripple the UK through cyber attacks. Sir David Omand, counter-terrorism co-coordinator said international terrorists were training to launch cyber-terror attacks on Britain, which could cripple vital economic, medical and transport networks and plunge the country into chaos and may lead to risk of riots.

He added that the surveillance of suspected Al-Qaeda affiliates suggested they were working to use the Internet and other electronic communications systems to cause harm.

Underground ET UFO bases all around the world
03.21.05 (2:02 pm)   [edit]

Geologists in the East and West coasts are busy understanding a new theory that shows possible underground UFO bases all around the world.

According to this theory the UFO bases are along the interface of the seven large and many small tectonic plates meet each other.

According to the UFO researchers, the underground UFO bases are deep under the ground where multiple tectonic plates push on top of each other.

Second 911 ST airliner remote control antenna verified
03.21.05 (1:57 pm)   [edit]

A second avionics specialist has detected a second remote control antenna on the airliner that was crashed into the South Tower. She agreed with the other avionics expert that the blade antennas circled in yellow are not found on a commercial airliner.

In the photo, note the yellow circled area on the tail section. Called a Planar Phased Array Antenna it replaces a dish satellite antenna that would be impossible to lock on to in a fast moving aircraft.

US state terrorism: 9/11 conspiracy revealed
03.20.05 (6:52 am)   [edit]
The US Army devised a plan commissioned by Congress to bring down the WTC using commercial airliners and box cutters as weapons.

The laundry list of terrorist warnings handed to the Bush administration prior to 9/11 makes the President and others look like "bumbling idiots or a bunch of conniving criminals" responsible for the mass murders at the Twin Towers and in Afghanistan and Iraq.

These are the harsh words of Timothy McNiven, an outspoken critic of the President's handling of 9/11 and a 29-year US Defense Department operative still under contract with the government.

Web to have "terror watch" team
03.19.05 (7:27 am)   [edit]
Five European governments are setting up a high tech team to monitor how terrorists and criminals use the Net.

The group will make recommendations on shutting down Web sites that break terrorism laws.

The plans for the initiative came out of a meeting of the G5 interior ministers in Spain that discussed ways to tackle these threats.

The five countries also agreed to make it easier to swap data about terror suspects and thefts of explosives.

America's agenda for global military domination
03.18.05 (8:42 am)   [edit]

The Pentagon has released the summary of a top secret document, which sketches America's agenda for global military domination.

This redirection of America's military strategy seems to have passed virtually unnoticed. With the exception of The Wall Street Journal, not a word has been mentioned in the US media.

The document explicitly acknowledges America's global military mandate, beyond regional war theatres. This mandate also includes military operations directed against countries, which are not hostile to America, but which are considered strategic from the point of view of US interests.

03.18.05 (8:03 am)   [edit]

Recently captured terrorists say two Al-Qaida-linked groups are training members in scuba diving in preparation for seaborne attacks, according to a Philippine military report.

The report, obtained by the Associated Press, also points to increasing collaboration among the Muslim terrorists in other areas, including financing and explosives.

Hackers target pro-Terri Web site
03.17.05 (1:52 pm)   [edit]

The battle over Terri Schiavo's life in the Florida courts, Legislature and US Congress moved into cyberspace when hackers shut down a popular news site noted for its probing coverage of the ongoing euthanasia case.

The Empire Journal, an Internet publication dedicated to exposing government fraud, corruption and abuse of power in New York state, expanded its focus about three months ago to include similar matters that have surfaced in the Terri Schiavo case.

US report lists possibilities for terrorist attacks and likely toll
03.16.05 (1:38 pm)   [edit]
The Department of Homeland Security, trying to focus antiterrorism spending better nationwide, has identified a dozen possible strikes it views as most plausible or devastating, including detonation of a nuclear device in a major city, release of sarin nerve agent in office buildings and a truck bombing of a sports arena.

The document, known simply as the National Planning Scenarios, reads more like a doomsday plan, offering estimates of the probable deaths and economic damage caused by each type of attack.

They include blowing up a chlorine tank, killing 17,500 people and injuring more than 100,000; spreading pneumonic plague in the bathrooms of an airport, sports arena and train station, killing 2,500 and sickening 8,000 worldwide; and infecting cattle with foot-and-mouth disease at several sites, costing hundreds of millions of dollars in losses.

Specific locations are not named because the events could unfold in many major metropolitan or rural areas, the document says.

Gitmo taunter teaches tactics
03.16.05 (1:35 pm)   [edit]
An ex-Army interrogator punished for sexually humiliating detainees at the Guantanamo prison is now teaching soldiers interrogation techniques, the Daily News has learned.

Former Staff Sgt. Jeannette Arocho-Burkart, 37, is an instructor at the Army Intelligence School in Fort Huachuca, Ariz., despite being reprimanded in 2003 for her sexually taunting tactics that included smearing fake menstrual blood on terror suspects, according to four sources who knew her there.

"She did get in trouble," confirmed one former colleague at Gitmo. "Huachuca could probably do better."

The source said that Arocho-Burkart was a "competent" interrogator, but "she fudged the line to an uncomfortable level."

"It wasn't torture, but touching the detainee inappropriately to humiliate him," the source said.

Besides wearing skimpy clothing to make Muslim men uncomfortable during questioning, Arocho-Burkart allegedly smeared red ink on a detainee's face, saying it was her menstrual blood -- an act that got her punished.

Brits warned US of detainee abuse in 2002
03.16.05 (1:32 pm)   [edit]
In January 2002, one day after the British Secret Intelligence Service was granted access to US-held detainees in Afghanistan, the agency became so concerned about prisoner treatment that it warned its personnel not to take part in coercive interrogations, documents show.

The British government's "stated commitment to human rights makes it important that the Americans understand that we cannot be party to such ill treatment nor can we be seen to condone it," reads a memo from the Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6.

"In no case should (detainees) be coerced during or in conjunction with an (MI6) interview of them," states the memo, cited in a report last week from the British parliament's Intelligence and Security Committee.

Pollard fights life sentence for spying for Israel
03.15.05 (1:58 pm)   [edit]
Lawyers for convicted spy Jonathan Pollard ran into tough questioning in a federal appeals court Tuesday as they argued that Pollard's life prison term stemmed from lies by the government and failure by his previous attorneys to represent him properly.

Judge David Sentelle, a member of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, suggested that Pollard's lawyers are on weak legal ground and said that granting their request to revive the case would mean that "you've opened the floodgates" for hundreds of other prisoners sentenced long ago.

US response has worsened terror risk: CSIS official
03.14.05 (8:17 pm)   [edit]
The US-led war on terrorism has made Al-Qaeda an even more dangerous organization, a senior Canadian intelligence official said Monday.

The blunt assessment of the group's increased “lethal effectiveness” came during a bail hearing for an Egyptian national detained as a threat to Canada's national security.

Focus: Britain's secret war on terror
03.14.05 (2:03 pm)   [edit]
On Friday afternoon, as MPs and peers were locked in a grand parliamentary row over the abstract principles of liberty and justice, the apparatus of Britain’s secret state stood on its second highest level of alert -- “severe (general)”.

The alert has remained enforced since November 2003 when an Al-Qaeda car bomb ripped through the front of the British consulate in Istanbul, killing the consul general and more than 25 others.

It means that an attack is expected on the British mainland but there is no specific intelligence to say where and when. Specialist units of the police, military and emergency services must be prepared to react at a moment’s notice.

The front line in this, Britain’s real war on terror, is not in the corridors of the houses of parliament but some 300 metres along the river inside Thames House, the imposing neo-classical headquarters of MI5, the domestic security service.

Israel plans strike on Iranian nuclear plant
03.13.05 (8:08 am)   [edit]
Israel has drawn up secret plans for a combined air and ground attack on targets in Iran if diplomacy fails to halt the Iranian nuclear programme.

The inner cabinet of Ariel Sharon, the Israeli prime minister, gave "initial authorisation" for an attack at a private meeting last month on his ranch in the Negev desert.

Israeli forces have used a mock-up of Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment plant in the desert to practise destroying it. Their tactics include raids by Israel's elite Shaldag (Kingfisher) commando unit and airstrikes by F-15 jets from 69 Squadron, using bunker-busting bombs to penetrate underground facilities.

The plans have been discussed with American officials who are said to have indicated provisionally that they would not stand in Israel's way if all international efforts to halt Iranian nuclear projects failed.

Bush version of Saddam capture is BS
03.12.05 (8:43 am)   [edit]
A former US Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.

Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the US Army.

"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.

"We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed," he said.

He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: "You have to surrender. There is no point in resisting."

"Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well," Abou Rabeh said.

The ultra top secret TR-3B
03.04.05 (2:31 pm)   [edit]

According to rumours, the top secret TR-3B uses an advanced gravity-defying propulsion system partially derived from reverse-engineered alien technology. The outer coating of the TR-3B is reactive to electrical stimulation and can change colour, reflectivity, and radar absorptiveness, allowing the TR-3B to "disguise" itself as a small aircraft.

In the centre of the the TR-3B is a circular, plasma-filled accelerator ring called the Magnetic Field Disruptor (MFD). The MFD rotates at 60,000 rpm, generating 250,000 atmospheres and neutralizing the effects of gravity by 89 per cent. This makes the TR-3B extremely light and maneuverable.

Maximum pain is aim of new US weapon
03.04.05 (6:32 am)   [edit]
The US military is funding development of a weapon that delivers a bout of excruciating pain from up to two kilometres away. Intended for use against rioters, it is meant to leave victims unharmed. But pain researchers are furious that work aimed at controlling pain has been used to develop a weapon. And they fear that the technology will be used for torture.

Was Hunter S. Thompson suicided?
03.02.05 (12:45 pm)   [edit]

Hunter Thompson was working on WTC collapse story before mysterious sudden death, warned he'd be "suicided."

Paul William Roberts in his Globe and Mail article of Saturday, February 26, 2005 wrote the following:

Hunter telephoned me on Feb. 19, the night before his death. He sounded scared. It wasn't always easy to understand what he said, particularly over the phone, he mumbled, yet when there was something he really wanted you to understand, you did. He'd been working on a story about the World Trade Center attacks and had stumbled across what he felt was hard evidence showing the towers had been brought down not by the airplanes that flew into them but by explosive charges set off in their foundations. Now he thought someone was out to stop him publishing it: "They're gonna make it look like suicide," he said. "I know how these bastards think . . ."

Hunter S. Thompson... was indeed working on such a story.

Harry Potter and the Cloak of Invisibility
03.01.05 (3:57 pm)   [edit]

A cloaking device that makes objects invisible is being developed by researchers, bringing the magic of Harry Potter into the world of science fact.

While Harry uses his cloak of invisibility to move about Hogwarts School unseen, electronic engineers at the University of Pennsylvania are working on a real invisibility shield called a "plasmonic cover."

The development, which works by preventing objects from reflecting and scattering light, could have widespread use in the military as it would be more effective than current stealth technology.

Although no final product has been made, the engineers claim their proposal "does not obviously violate any of the laws of physics."
