Busybodies blow French spy cover
04.28.05 (7:13 pm) [edit]
A former French spy who says he watched Islamist militants in London eventually had to leave the country after local nosey neighbours blew his cover.
Pierre Martinet, a former member of the DGSE (or foreign intelligence agency), claims he spied on UK soil without the authorities ever noticing his presence.
This was until "nosey parkers" reported him to the police.

US set to sell bunker-busters to Israel
04.28.05 (7:11 pm) [edit]
|
The Pentagon has notified Congress of a proposed sale to Israel of 100 guided bunker-busting bombs, a move that analysts say could prompt concerns about a unilateral Israel strike against Iran.
Israel requested the sale of the Lockheed Martin Corp GBU-28s, worth as much as $30 million, the Pentagon's Defence Security Cooperation Agency said in a notice required by law for government-to-government military sales.
The GBU-28 was developed for penetrating hardened command centres located deep underground and would be used by the Israeli Air Force on their US-built F-15 aircraft, the agency said.
Israel -- believed to be the Middle East's only nuclear armed state -- has denied speculation that it might make a military strike on Iran to prevent it from producing an atomic bomb.

MoD probe laptop found in dump
04.26.05 (4:27 pm) [edit]
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) launched an inquiry after a laptop allegedly containing military secrets and anti-terrorist plans was found on a dump.
31-year-old car parts manager Martin Dunn discovered the device as he was searching for computer spare parts at a rubbish tip in Winchester, Hampshire. A woman handed Dunn a bag containing the laptop and a booklet outlining armed forces security procedures.
The computer is alleged to contain 70 files detailing plans to deal with terrorist attacks on an army camp and navy base in the UK. The files are said to contain maps and plans of local military and naval bases. An MoD spokeman said it had started inquiries to find out whether or not the laptop and booklet was official MoD equipment.

What's on mysterious ship?
04.25.05 (8:29 pm) [edit]

People on the Portland waterfront are wondering about a mysterious vessel in the harbor. The Sage, an offshore supply ship about 180 feet long, is carrying two large domes on its aft deck. The domes typically cover parabolic antennae that are used to track satellites. The rumor on the waterfront is that they will track the space shuttle Discovery, scheduled to be launched next month.
But the ship's captain won't talk. He has ordered that nobody be allowed near the ship, which is tied up in a secure area at the end of Pier 1 at the Portland Ocean Terminal. The Sage has been tied up there for three weeks, at a cost of nearly $300 a day.

Passenger lists sought for flights over US
04.21.05 (1:47 pm) [edit]
The US government plans to force foreign airlines flying over American soil to turn over the names of passengers on board or check the names against US government watch lists in an effort to prevent terrorists from entering US airspace.
Under current rules, overseas carriers are required to provide passenger manifests to US officials within 15 minutes of takeoff if they are to land in the United States, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
Officials have been concerned that terrorists may try to hijack a plane over the United States and crash it into a building, as occurred on Sept. 11, 2001. Officials acknowledge, however, that no credible intelligence exists indicating such a plot.

Earth’s gravity may lure deadly asteroid
04.19.05 (1:32 pm) [edit]
|
A huge asteroid which is on a course to miss the Earth by a whisker in 2029 could go round its orbit again and score a direct hit a few years later.
Astronomers have calculated that the 1,000ft-wide asteroid called 2004 MN4 will pass by the Earth at a distance of between 15,000 and 25,000 miles -- about a tenth of the distance between the Earth and the Moon and close enough to be seen with the naked eye.
Although they are sure that it will miss us, they are worried about the disturbance that such a close pass will give to the asteroid's orbit. It might put 2004 MN4 on course for a collision in 2034 or a year or two later: the unpredictability of its behaviour means that the danger might not become apparent until it is too late.

Book excerpt: Sleeper cells in America
04.18.05 (1:25 pm) [edit]
Until the moment American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, few people in the United States worried that there might be lethal terrorist sleeper cells living among them.
By 9:03:11 a.m., when United Airlines Flight 175 slammed into the south tower of the World Trade Center, most people who watched the tragedy unfold on television realized that they were witnessing a terrorist attack, not an airplane accident.
The horrifying sights of the building exploding in fireballs, the smoke billowing miles into the air, people jumping to their deaths from the high floors are images that were burned that morning into the American consciousness like virtually no other image in the country's history.

Film claims town attracts alien visitors
04.15.05 (7:07 pm) [edit]
Stories in this dusty cow town come a dime a dozen, hardly a surprise given its hold on the old prison, the new state prison, its historic cattle ranch, and its fabled car museum. But here, 50 miles southwest of Helena, stories of a different sort have become the talk of the town -- stories exposed by a former Deer Lodge resident and her new docudrama, "The Secret of Redgate."
From her Texas home, Lynda Cowen, a 1963 graduate of Powell County High School, attributed the making of her new film to her brother's own UFO encounters as a kid. The results have propelled Deer Lodge to the front of Montana's most mysterious destinations.

Special guard units prepare for domestic terrorism
04.14.05 (1:27 pm) [edit]
|
The National Guard is preparing for domestic terrorism, not just attacks from foreigners. Special teams from the Northwest are training this week at a facility in the Tri-cities.
The scenario: a standoff between authorities and a religious cult. Officials suspect the group has stockpiles of dangerous chemicals or radioactive material.
Emergency trainer Matt Fox is teaching National Guard Teams from Washington, Idaho and Alaska what to do.
Matt Fox: "Anytime you're dealing with ne'er-do-wells you make entry into established compounds there have been booby traps found, from something as simple as fish hooks to something as extravagant as explosives."

Deadly flu virus mistakenly sent to thousands of labs
04.13.05 (2:25 pm) [edit]
|
Comment: Whoops, isn't it a shame that we're going to have to accept men in black ski masks sticking needles in our arms at gunpoint now that this "mistake" was made?
A "mistake" they've been preparing for for years by stockpiling vaccines and hyping all over the media that there will be a flu pandemic and that it's inevitable.
This is a slow process of conditioning the public to accept mandatory vaccinations and restrictions on mobility under a rule of martial law.

Strange deaths of UFO researchers
04.12.05 (1:37 pm) [edit]
A great article on the Rense site about the strange deaths and "suicides" of UFO researchers. Seems to be a lot of strokes, heart attacks and cancers.
I particularly like the one about the guy who shot himself, failed, so ended up in a wheelchair... then managed to get to a pawn shop, buy a gun, drive into the desert and shoot himself successfully!
Talk about determination.

Israelis were 9-11 short sale stock buyers, betting on WTC terror strikes
04.12.05 (1:30 pm) [edit]
Between August 26 and September 11, 2001, a group of speculators, identified by the American Securities and Exchange Commission as Israeli citizens, sold "short" a list of 38 stocks that could reasonably be expected to fall in value as a result of the pending attacks. These speculators operated out of the Toronto, Canada and Frankfurt, Germany, stock exchanges and their profits were specifically stated to be "in the millions of dollars."
Short selling of stocks involves the opportunity to gain large profits by passing shares to a friendly third party, then buying them back when the price falls. Historically, if this precedes a traumatic event, it is an indication of foreknowledge. It is widely known that the CIA uses the Promis software to routinely monitor stock trades as a possible warning sign of a terrorist attack or suspicious economic behavior.
A week after the Sept. 11 attacks, the London Times reported that the CIA had asked regulators for the Financial Services Authority in London to investigate the suspicious sales of millions of shares of stock just prior to the terrorist acts. It was hoped the business paper trail might lead to the terrorists.

US seeks access to bank records to deter terror
04.11.05 (1:40 pm) [edit]
|
The Bush administration is developing a plan to give the government access to possibly hundreds of millions of international banking records in an effort to trace and deter terrorist financing, even as many bankers say they already feel besieged by government antiterrorism rules that they consider overly burdensome.
The initiative, as conceived by a working group within the Treasury Department, would vastly expand the government's database of financial transactions by gaining access to logs of international wire transfers into and out of American banks. Such overseas transactions were used by the Sept. 11 hijackers to wire more than $130,000, officials said, and are still believed to be vulnerable to terrorist financiers.

If researchers at DARPA, the US Department of Defense's research agency is to be believed, people could soon be having conversations on their mobile phones, but without uttering a sound.
The agency, is working on a project known as Advanced Speech Encoding, aimed at replacing microphones with non-acoustic sensors that detect speech via the speaker's nerve and muscle activity, rather than sound itself.

Extraterrestrial communication systems guide design and development
04.10.05 (6:57 am) [edit]
One of the most significant area of research in the world is development of the next generation Military Command and Control Systems. Modelling of extraterrestrial communication systems is helping scientists and engineers in design and development of the next generation Military Command and Control Systems.
While many in the world are waiting with open antennae expecting to hear from extraterrestrials in acoustic and/or non-acoustic wavelengths, scientists are realizing that the extraterrestrials communicate through discharge of ions and chemicals.
This newly evolving technology is helping design and development of the new generation Military Command and Control Systems that is out of reach for any enemy with terrestrial technologies.

Recent Al-Qaeda warnings should be border security wake-up call
04.09.05 (10:19 am) [edit]
Al-Qaeda is plotting to attack the US again. More precisely, since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda has likely not taken one day off from planning to attack America with a strike even more lethal than the previous one.
Recent reports indicate that the terror network has identified, and plans to exploit, the porous borders to America's north and south as entry points into the country. In particular, the border between the US and Mexico stands ready as a huge "welcome mat" for terrorists, weapons and equipment.
It's time that someone puts two and two together and sees that a real war on terror includes stopping terrorists before they actually enter the country.

Tsunami bomb developed as far back as 1944
04.08.05 (3:24 pm) [edit]
|
Months before the end of World War II, an American intelligence agency launched a top-secret project aimed at devising ways to trigger massive earthquakes and tsunamis that would wreak havoc among enemy civilian populations, recently uncovered documents reveal.
According to a detailed report, project planners from the Office of Strategic Services, the nation's first intelligence agency and precursor to the CIA, concluded that the United States could use its "new atomic bomb" to trigger massive earthquakes and tsunamis, thus creating "massive destruction, death and unchecked hysteria."

"Iraq down; Iran left to go"
04.07.05 (1:28 pm) [edit]
|
So, nine weeks after the Iraqi people defied the odds and chose a government, and today as the new government has chosen a president, we are pleased to remind our readers that in 1997 Dr. Chalabi came to JINSA and called for a "broad-based popular movement committed to representative government and to the protection of the human rights of all Iraqis (as offering) moral and practical power," adding, "despite the ethnic and religious complexity of Iraqi society, parties representing all facets are united in this democratic goal."
We hoped so at and wrote the time, "It is in America's best interest to support indigenous opposition movements and their... supporters seeking changes in the governing regimes in Baghdad and Tehran."
Iraq down; Iran left to go.

Bush quarantine order could set precedent for medical martial law
04.05.05 (2:48 pm) [edit]
President Bush issued a directive on Friday allowing authorities to detain or isolate any passenger suspected of having avian flu when arriving in the United States aboard an international flight.
The Bush order added pandemic influenza to the list of diseases for which quarantine is authorized. Pandemic flu is considered a novel or re-emergent strain to which there is little or no population immunity.
Under the directive, the Health and Human Services Department is given legal authority to detain or isolate any passenger suspected of having the avian flu to prevent the person from infecting others.

Torture Inc. -- America's brutal prisons
04.04.05 (1:39 pm) [edit]
Savaged by dogs, electrocuted With cattle prods, burned by toxic chemicals -- does such barbaric abuse inside US jails explain the horrors that were committed in Iraq?
They are just some of the victims of wholesale torture taking place inside the US prison system that [the BBC] uncovered during a four-month investigation for BBC Channel 4. It’s terrible to watch some of the videos and realise that you’re not only seeing torture in action but, in the most extreme cases, you are witnessing young men dying.
The prison guards stand over their captives with electric cattle prods, stun guns, and dogs. Many of the prisoners have been ordered to strip naked. The guards are yelling abuse at them, ordering them to lie on the ground and crawl. "Crawl, motherf*****s, crawl."
If a prisoner doesn’t drop to the ground fast enough, a guard kicks him or stamps on his back. There’s a high-pitched scream from one man as a dog clamps its teeth onto his lower leg.

Nations grapple with espionage needs
04.03.05 (7:20 pm) [edit]
Napoleon is said to have once remarked that having a spy in the right place is worth 20,000 troops on the battlefield. But the trick, even in these days of high-tech surveillance, is finding that secret agent.
Countries from Russia to France and China grapple with the issue -- and some, like Israel, have scored high-profile successes. But experts say espionage is by nature an inexact science -- and US agencies are still tops despite this week's report finding them "dead wrong" on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

04.01.05 (9:44 pm) [edit]

What were thought to be the remains of Noah’s Ark on Mount Ararat in modern-day Turkey were discovered to be natural formations by a group of Russian scientists.
Scientists from the Kosmopoisk Scientific Research Center announced Friday at a press conference that there were no remains of Noah's Ark on the mountain, the Interfax news agency reported.
"Everything that we saw, all the samples that we gathered testify to the fact that there is no Noah's Ark on Ararat's western slope," the news agency quoted Vadim Chernobrov, the center's director, as saying.

A presidential commission investigating the intelligence debacle that preceded the Iraq invasion reported yesterday that the damage done to US credibility would "take years to undo."
American intelligence was described by the report as being in chaos, often paralysed by the rivalry of 15 different spy agencies and affected by unchallenged assumptions about Baghdad's supposed weapons of mass destruction.
